The Stables at Wavendon is one of the UK’s leading music venues and has long been respected by the numerous artists that perform there. Founded in the late 60’s by Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine and built in the grounds of their home at Wavendon, The Stables caters for all tastes in music, Jazz, Blues, Classical, Folk, Rock, Pop, World Music as well as stand up comedy. In 2000 the purpose built auditorium, that seats 398, was opened to the public and now presents over 200 shows a year. In 2007 Stage 2 was devised, in the area of the original Stables, this space doubles up as a Cafe from 6pm to 7:30pm, before becoming a more intimate venue for 80 seated to 120 standing and is run concurrent with the main venue. The Stables is a registered charity with the support of the arts council and is also helped by it’s large team of volunteers “The Stablemates” who’s knowledge, enthusiasm and friendly welcome make visiting the venue a pleasurable experience.
Empty Room Promotions was set up in 2002 by Pearse Guina and Mike Trotman, two life long fans of “live” music, who got tired of spending all their money going to other peoples gigs. They chose to concentrate on Americana music, best described as a mixture of country, folk, rock, basically the type of music that BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris plays on his show. Artist like Guy Clark, Tom Russell, Buddy Miller, Eliza Gilkyson, Amy Wadge, Marah, Stewboss, Chuck Prophet, Gretchen Peters, Mary Gauthier, Eve Selis etc have all played at some time for Empty Room Promotions’
Sadly in 2004 Pearse passed away, but fortunately for the people of Buckingham Mike decided to continue, with the support of his family and friends and with three venues at his disposal in the Buckingham area these include:
The Radcliffe Centre, Church Street, Buckingham, MK18 1BY The Old Town Hall, Castle Street, Buckingham, MK18 1BY
