March Calendar
It’s March already, the weather is warming up, the daffodils are in bloom, the evening are getting lighter . . . . OK I’m writing this in February, but one can but hope. Traditionally it starts getting really busy for me now so this could mean I’m might have to abandon updating this site, regularly, only joking
March and early April will be great for you Seth Lakeman fans as you will have three chances to see him in the area, first up with be 1st at The Royal and Dernegate in Nothampton, while at Junction 2 in Cambridge Nick Harper will be treading the boards. No sooner has Seth brushed the sweat from his brow and he’s made his way to The Alban Arena in St Albans on 3rd for his next outing, though this is also a busy day with Spiers and Bodan playing The Stables and Jill Sobule playing Junction 2, Cambridge and The Hollies playing The Grove in Dunstable The 4th is one of those nightmare days for music with six possible choices, if you are happy to travel, The Stables will welcome back Kate Walsh, while The Junction has Tom McRae, still in Cambridge for The Hollies at The Corn Exchange while at ARU Refectory someone I’d like to see is Lisa Mitchell, take a listen! Back to St Albans Arena for Ocean Colour Scene or a trip up the motorway to Market Harborough for the 4th gig from AM Gigs, who I keep meaning to visit, but apart from their first show they’ve always clashed with something else, that doesn’t mean you can’t support them if you can and they do have Radio 2 Folk Award Winners Lau. Friday 5th it’s either a trip to Hertford for Chumbawamba ot another visit to Stage 2 at The Stables and Judith Owen. Saturday 6th The Entshed has Papa George with support from Cherry Lee Mewis.
Another month is over and spring is in the air, I hope. Remember to keep checking back here as I might find some more to recommend.

Dave
Sunday 7th and back to Hitchin for guitarist Clive Carroll with support from Joe Topping, while on Monday if you fancy a trip down to Chesham and the Tudor folk club you are in for a treat with Chris Wood. On Tuesday over at The Stables Peter Green and Friends has just Sold Out so you might have to check him out later this week in Cambridge. Wednesday 10th and if like me you missed on getting a ticket for Mumford and Son then it’ll be a night in! Thursday Peter Green and Friends arrive at Cambridge Junction 2 while back at The Stables Eliza Carthy will be treading the boards. Friday 12th Carlene Carter, daughter of June Carter and step daughter of Johnny Cash will player the wonderful Radcliffe Centre in Buckingham, I do hope she likes it as much as we do. Saturday might be a day of rest unless you enjoy the the female powerhouse that is Never The Bride.
Sunday 14th Hitchin have firm favourites with Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, while in support will be Mike Silver. On the same night Jill Sobule will be at The Stables.  Tuesday 16th and Fab Nights in Bedford have Joe Broughton’s Urban Folk Quartet and at Stage 2 of The Stables Lucy Wainwright Roche, while Junction 2, Cambridge, Steve Howe Trio. They are elevated to the main auditorium for their visit on 17th to The Stables, while in Junction One, Cambridge Hayseed Dixie will no doubt play to a packed crowd. On 18th they will travel down the A1 to St Albans Arena to do it all again. Friday 19th Urban Folk Quartet will be at Stage 2 of The Stables as Frank Sinatra has already Sold Out the main stage and their me thinking he died some years ago. Saturday 20th, with not much else happening I might make a second visit to Acoustic Routes tiny tiny venue in Cambridge the the visit of the truly wonderful Krista Detor.
Sunday 21st, Allan Taylor at Hitchin Folk Club, then jumping to 24th at The Stables for Turin Breaks while at Junction One in Cambridge it’s Half Man Half Biscuit. Friday 26th and a choice of three with Clare Teal at The Stables or Navaro in Stage 2 or a quick trip up the M1 to The Royal and Dernegate in Northampton to see Cara Dillon. 27th and although Ella Edmundson is playing at The Castle in Wellingborough I will be supporting local bands Tinker Jack, Amy Leeder and Tom Copson at The Ent Shed in Bedford.

Sunday 28th it’s Demon Barbers at Hitchin Folk Club, I’m not sure if there is enough room for a sword dance without decapitating the front row! You you could try The Joni Mitchell Project at The Stables. 30th and if you missed them in Hitchin you can check out Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham at The Stables. On Thursday 31st please make sure you check out Krista Detor and Stage 2 of The Stables, you really won’t regret it.
