Myspace is a great resource for music of all types, a cheap and easy way to discover some new and also familiar sounds. Below is a small list of artists that you may wish to investigate further.
Megson Folk / Acoustic / Roots This duo with their wonderful harmonies have made themselves very popular in the Beds and Herts area and though originating from the North East England they’ve made their home here too. Recently nominated in the BBC Folk Award and with three great albums behind them they have steadily established their reputation as two of the freshest, most original performers in the latest folk revival. Do check them out. www.myspace.com/megsonmusic
To Be Still, the current CD, is the follow-up to Alela Diane’s critically-acclaimed 2006 debut The Pirate’s Gospel which brought the Nevada City, CA-reared musician a passionate following across the globe. She has just played on the opening night of Cambridge Folk Festival 2009 and is due back in the UK later in the year. Listen to her Myspace and I think you’ll want to check her out some more.
Kami Thompson Alternative / Grunge / Powerpop We should expect something good if your pedigree is Dad Richard, Mum Linda and older brother Teddy and in the case of Kami you can’t go wrong. Only starting out on the music scene in 2006 and a debut album yet to be released she is already getting a great name for herself on the “live” circuit. Having seen her 3 times live in 2009 I really need some more. In the meantime check out her Myspace www.myspace.com/kamithompson
Jess Morgan Folk / Americana Norfolk’s own Americana star Jess, who’s first full length CD will be released in April 2010, maybe familiar to some of us in the Bedford area, where she has played on a regular basis, but hopefully with this new CD and a month long tour of the US she will get the wider exposure that she deserves. One to watch and listen out for. www.myspace.com/jessmorganacoustic
